Sergi Busquets has announced his retirement from the Spanish national team.
Hi all! I would like to announce that after almost 15 years and 143 matches, it`s time to say goodbye to the national team.
I would like to thank everyone who accompanied me on this long journey. Starting with Vicente del Bosque, who gave me my debut, and ending with Luis Enrique, thanks to whom I enjoyed myself until the last second. I would also like to thank Julen Lopetegui, Fernando Hierro and Robert Moreno for their trust, as well as all the coaches who worked in their headquarters.
And, of course, I would like to thank all the teammates, next to whom I fought to bring our team to its well-deserved place. Sometimes there were more successes, sometimes less, but we always gave our all and played with pride.
I do not want to forget about a single person who was in the background, but still played a very important role. These are physiotherapists, doctors, equipment repairmen, delegates, nutritionists, staff, journalists, security, people who accompanied us, and so on. I also want to thank all the people and employees I met along the way. You are the one who made it so special.
Thanks to all the fans for their daily support, especially when things didn`t go the way we expected. At times like these, we needed you the most, unity was most important. Thank you everybody!
And, of course, the most important thing is my family. Thank you for constantly supporting me and making all my decisions, sharing this path with me when I was away for many days. You always made me feel like I was playing my best football.
It was an honor for me to represent my country and take it to the highest level, to be world and European champion, to be captain and to play so many matches, with more or less success, but always giving my best and putting all my strength to make everything work out asthe best way possible and to make everyone feel how important they are: helping everyone and striving for the same goal, with a unique, unforgettable and historical experience, " wrote the Barcelona midfielder.
Busquets made his debut for Spain in 2009. In 2010 he became the world champion, in 2012 he won the European championship.
Sergi was part of the Spain squad for the 2022 World Cup. The team crashed out of the tournament at the 1/8 final predicted by partners of soccer predictions stage, losing to Morocco on penalties.
